FREE CALCULATOR · FRANCE 2026

What budget should you plan for your pet?

For a dog, cat, rabbit, guinea pig or hamster, get a monthly and yearly starting point, compare rated food when an exact match exists, and prepare their arrival. The figures are not a quote or veterinary advice.

Which animal are you budgeting for?

01

What the estimate actually includes

The starting point combines food, litter or substrate and routine preventive care. Add your own monthly allowance for insurance, boarding, grooming or a buffer. Emergencies, acquisition fees and one-off equipment remain separate.

02

Where do the starting figures come from?

Dog, cat and rabbit references come from official French certificates. Dog size and food-priority levels are PetFoodRate estimates built around the official medium-dog reference. For guinea pigs and hamsters, the total uses only your entries because no sufficiently precise official national average was found.

03

Why is no basket filled automatically?

Each item links to its exact product through a tracked route. Zooplus does not document a public publisher interface for filling a customer basket. The checklist therefore leaves you free to choose useful items without pretending to create a basket that might be incomplete or outdated.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a dog cost per month in France?

The French ministry gives a reference of about €50 per month for industrial food for a medium dog and €100 to €300 per year for routine veterinary care. The result changes with size, food and your added spending.

How much does a cat cost per month in France?

The French ministry gives references of about €30 per month for food for a medium cat, €10 to €25 for litter and €50 to €200 per year for routine veterinary care.

How much does a rabbit cost per month in France?

The official French certificate gives food references of €20 to €40 per month for a dwarf rabbit and €80 to €100 for a large rabbit, litter up to €30 per month, and routine care of €100 to €150 per year.

Why do I enter my own guinea pig or hamster budget?

No sufficiently precise official French average was found for these two species. The calculator therefore adds only your own figures instead of inventing a generic estimate.

Does the estimate include veterinary emergencies?

No. It includes a routine preventive-care range. Emergencies, insurance, boarding, grooming and acquisition fees need to be added for your situation.
