Why this ingredient is used

Yucca schidigera extract is added to pet food to reduce faecal odour. The saponins in yucca bind to ammonia and hydrogen sulfide in the gut, reducing the gases responsible for the worst of pet stool smell. This is a genuine quality-of-life benefit for indoor cat owners and apartment dog owners. Premium brands list it transparently; budget brands sometimes include it without listing because the quantity is below mandatory disclosure thresholds. Yucca has no known adverse effects and is generally regarded as a beneficial minor additive.
