Why this ingredient is used

Chondroitin sulfate works in synergy with glucosamine to protect joint cartilage. While glucosamine provides the building blocks for new cartilage synthesis, chondroitin inhibits the enzymes that break down existing cartilage. Together they slow the progression of osteoarthritis. Most joint-support pet food formulas include both (Royal Canin Maxi Adult, Orijen Original, James Wellbeloved). As with glucosamine, the dose in most kibble is sub-clinical compared to dedicated joint supplements, but the combination still shows measurable benefit in long-term feeding studies.
