Why this ingredient is used

Turkey is the leanest mainstream poultry protein. At 2 to 3 percent fat for breast meat (vs 8 to 10 percent for chicken thigh), turkey-based formulas target weight management and senior dogs needing lower-calorie diets without reducing protein. Turkey is also a novel protein for dogs that have only eaten chicken, making it a useful second step in allergy élimination. Premium brands like Orijen, Acana and Wellness use turkey as a secondary protein alongside chicken to diversify the amino acid profile.
