Natural diet: who eats this in the wild?
Meadow hay is the dried harvest of mixed wild grasses, wildflowers and herbs from European meadows. Unlike timothy hay which is a single species, meadow hay contains 10 to 30 différent plant species depending on the field and the cut date. This diversity makes it nutritionally broader but less consistent than timothy. Wild rabbits, guinea pigs and chinchillas in their native habitats eat a very similar mix of dried grasses and herbs. The UK Rabbit Welfare Association recommends offering both timothy and meadow hay for variety.
