Why this ingredient is used
Beet pulp is the dried residue of sugar beet after sugar extraction. Despite the name, it contains almost no sugar (less than 1 percent in desugarised form). It is used as a moderately fermentable fibre source that promotes beneficial gut bacteria without causing the gas and loose stools associated with highly fermentable fibres like FOS. Beet pulp is the most common fibre additive in premium dog and cat food (Royal Canin, Hill's, Purina ProPlan all use it extensively). It also adds bulk to stools, which helps dogs and cats with chronic soft stools.
